hello internet people. this is my blog about stuff. and things.

twitter.com/laurajlaura:

Well. I suppose I should mention this since it’s been going on for over a year now. Ahem. I collect bread ties. What. Bert collects paper clips. It’s okay. I show no signs of stopping my collection. So, after a year and two months, here’s what I’ve got to say and show about my bread ties.

These bread ties are from only my family’s bread consumption. I have 173 bread ties. That averages to about 2.8 loaves a week. (We like bread, what can I say?) The most common color in my collection is white. I read somewhere that the color has to do with the day of the week that the bread was made, so I guess that says something about the day we usually go shopping? Second most popular color is red. Least popular colors are brown and yellow. I really like the brown one, it reminds me of the light brown M&M, remember that color? It was the best one, and I was sad to see it go.

There are 14 bread ties that are large or are unusual shapes. I believe those come from things like the bags of cutie oranges or other produce? But I can’t be sure.

The reason I started putting these bread ties in a jar on our kitchen window (jake called me out on it back in February) was because I kept seeing them places. On sidewalks, in creeks, washed up on the beach, and in pictures of bird’s bellies. The thing is, they’re too small to put in the recycling, or I’d do that. I can’t seem to throw one away without imagining it ending up causing some harm to a bird or fish or turtle somewhere. Maybe that is a little hoardy fine.

This isn’t like the envelope security pattern collecting. PLEASE don’t send me yours. I don’t actually want these. If anyone has a brilliant idea of what to do with them other than collecting and categorizing them, however, I’d love to know.
